When the pirates were only a few nautical miles from the base, the clamor of over ten thousand men could already be heard clearly.

The sentries woke with a start and looked into the distance, only to see a vast, dark mass.

It was truly like black clouds bearing down on a city, threatening to crush it. They could no longer even see the sea.

The sentries went deathly pale, cold sweat pouring down their backs.

They had never seen so many pirates in their lives.

Fortunately, their fear did not make them forget their duties, and they hurriedly sounded the alarm.

The blare of the alarm instantly rang throughout the base.

Every soldier jolted awake.

Before they could even figure out what was happening, they heard the clamor coming from the distance.

Their sluggish minds were quickly shocked awake.

The former Base Chief, Asfer, hurriedly dressed and went outside, where he saw a black line bearing down on the G-1 branch in the distance.

Looking closer, he realized it was no black line at all, but an enormous fleet of pirate ships.

His breath caught. He felt as though he were standing on cotton, unable to muster any strength in his legs.

"Base Chief, what do we do?"

The other bewildered soldiers looked at Asfer as though they had finally found someone they could depend on.

Some of the more fragile ones had even burst into tears.

Asfer was just as lost.

What do we do? I'd like to know that myself!

He was only a lowly branch Vice Admiral. What could he possibly do in the face of something like this?

Suddenly, he remembered that he was no longer the Base Chief.

But the sense of having someone to rely on had barely surfaced before it shattered.
