A deep, muffled sound seemed to come from the endless void.
Brick and the others felt their bodies resonating with it.
"Sir, what is..."
Brick approached Randall, looking wary.
"That's an elephant's trumpet!"
At that, Brick exclaimed in shock:
"An elephant's trumpet can make that much noise?
I almost thought our battleship was going to fall apart."
"Well, it is that giant elephant.
It can carry an entire island on its back. Do you think it could be small?"
The giant elephant of Zou reached down to the seabed ten thousand meters below and up into the sky ten thousand meters above.

No, calling them pillars wasn't quite accurate.
They were more like five mountains of uniform thickness from top to bottom.
Four of them were at least a kilometer in diameter and submerged in the sea.
The last was slightly thinner and hung down from the sky.
They were simply so enormous that everyone lost all sense of scale.
Those four mountains stood in the seawater.
Looking up, all they could see was their tops disappearing into the clouds.
Their size wasn't the most important thing.
The most important thing was that they were fucking moving!
"You've got to be kidding! Moving mountains?"
The soldiers stared at the four mountains in disbelief.
"Wait, I mean, don't you think those things look like they're... walking?"
One soldier ventured.
"Y-you mean those are some creature's four legs?"
Another
