Ash immediately ordered Pikachu to use Iron Tail to break free, but Electivire swung its tail and slammed Pikachu into the ground. Pikachu used the opening to strike the tail and escape, then launched Quick Attack just as Electivire used Brick Break. The two attacks collided, locking them in an evenly matched struggle. After they separated, Ash, for reasons unknown, ordered Pikachu to use Wild Charge. With Electivire's Motor Drive Ability, Paul was more than happy to take the Electric-type attack, and simply had Electivire block it with both hands. The attack boosted Electivire's speed, allowing Electivire to immediately strike at Pikachu with Thunder Punch. Pikachu countered with Iron Tail, and the two locked together again, only for Electivire to knock Pikachu out with a left-handed Brick Break.
After recalling Pikachu, Ash sent out his last Pokémon, Infernape. The battle opened with an exchange of Thunder Punch and Mach Punch, neither side gaining the upper hand. Infernape immediately followed with Flamethrower, but Electivire blocked it with Protect. Paul then ordered Electivire to use Thunder, spreading the attack out for fear of missing. Infernape avoided it with Dig, then struck Electivire directly for super-effective damage.
Electivire did not fall from that blow. Instead, Electivire used Brick Break to split Infernape's Flamethrower, and the two traded a flurry of Thunder Punches and Mach Punches. After Electivire blocked another Flamethrower with Protect, Infernape tried to follow up with Mach Punch, only for Electivire's tail to coil around Infernape's arm. Electivire then delivered a direct Thunder, inflicting heavy damage. Yet just as Infernape fell and the referee began to declare the knockout, Infernape stood back up. A crimson glow radiated from Infernape's entire body, while the flame atop Infernape's head shot skyward in a pillar, giving off terrifying heat.
"What terrifying power! To think
