In the second quarterfinal match, Lusana paired Zweilous and Froslass, two Pokémon whose types complemented each other, and demonstrated Dragon Rage, Dark Pulse, DragonBreath, and Crunch, along with Confusion, Wake-Up Slap, Misfortune, and Ominous Wind. Neither side gave an inch at first. Although Lusana's combinations of Wake-Up Slap with Dragon Rage and Ominous Wind with Dark Pulse had some effect, her opponent found ways to neutralize them, while Lusana likewise countered her opponent's attacks. Only with a minute and a half left did she gain a decisive advantage: Froslass used Confusion to control Zweilous's DragonBreath, forming two intersecting, rotating rings of energy. This "Offensive Protection" formation interrupted the opposing moves and trapped both opponents, with a lucky paralysis effect leaving them immobilized. Zweilous attacked both with Crunch, and Froslass followed up with Misfortune, successfully defeating the other qualifier from Group A. May also advanced to the semifinals with a brilliant battle against the other qualifier from Section B. At last, it was time for Liu Yuan and Harley's match in Section C.
