Early the next morning, Liu Qing arrived at the Azalea Gym. He pushed open the door and found that the interior looked just like a botanical garden, filled with flowers, grass, trees, and, of course, bugs.

"We will now begin the Badge challenge between the Azalea Gym Leader and Liu Qing from Saffron City. Each trainer may use three Pokémon. Are you both ready?" the referee asked once they reached the battlefield and Bugsy had applied his Potion.

"Of course. I can hardly wait to get my hands on the Azalea Gym's Badge," Liu Qing said.

"I'm pretty confident too. Liu Qing, have you ever heard the saying, 'He who conquers Bug-type Pokémon conquers the world'?" Bugsy asked.

"No. Don't tell me you came up with that yourself?"

"Bingo! Correct, but there's no prize. My first Pokémon will be the silent warrior of Bug-type Pokémon. Go, Spinarak!" Bugsy sent out Spinarak first.

"Spinarak, huh? Go, Eevee!" Liu Qing tossed a Poké Ball, and an Eevee with a glossy coat appeared.
