Another two weeks flashed by.
A burst of laughter rang out from a room in the Body Sect!
"Hahaha, it worked! I did it!"
“The Tribulation-Transcending Artifact is finally finished.”
On the floor sat a perfectly round, spherical cage, made entirely from various highly conductive metals and vines from a ten-thousand-year Thunderclap Hell Prison Vine.
Inside was an oval plastic board with excellent insulating properties.
Around the cage were several hooks smelted and forged from the iron wires of a Thousand-Year Ironwire Snake.
They were specifically designed to direct electric current into the ground.
Looking at the Faraday Cage he had painstakingly built, Chen Mo felt a surge of satisfaction.
Chen Mo could hardly wait to find a Soul Beast about to undergo its tribulation and personally test the effectiveness of this Tribulation-Transcending Artifact.
Perhaps his laughter had been too loud.
At some point, Du Busi had appeared by the window.
"What are you laughing about, brat? Why so loud?"
"Master, what brings you here?"
"Didn't you ask me to catch some lightning-attribute Soul Beasts? They're already lying out in the back mountain."
“As expected of my master! You work fast. Oh, take a look at the Tribulation-Transcending Artifact I made.”
Finding a Soul Beast undergoing a tribulation was genuinely difficult.
Finding Soul Beasts with a lightning attribute, however, was much easier.
To test the Faraday Cage's effectiveness, Chen Mo had specifically asked Du Busi for help.
He had asked him to catch some Soul Beasts for testing.
Du Busi looked at the so-called Tribulation-Transcending Artifact.
A trace of disdain flashed through his eyes.
A Tribulation-Transcending Artifact?
This?
It's just a lousy cage. I could probably shatter the thing with a casual flick of my finger.
Suddenly, Du Busi noticed that the vines around the cage looked familiar.
“Are those vines from a Thunderclap Hell Prison Vine?” he asked.
"Exactly!"
“The Thunderclap Hell Prison Vine naturally feeds on lightning, so its vines have exceptional electrical resistance and toughness...”
Chen Mo launched into an explanation all on his own.
Du Busi covered his face.
What a waste!
Such an outrageous waste!
The vines of a Thunderclap Hell Prison Vine were exceedingly precious plant materials.
He had only obtained them by chance back then.
When they returned from the Star Dou Great Forest, Chen Mo had sidled up with a list, calling him “Master” over and over.
He had said, "Master, I need these things."
Du Busi had glanced at it.
Ten-Thousand-Year Black Iron, vines from a ten-thousand-year Thunderclap Hell Prison Vine, iron wires from a Thousand-Year Ironwire Snake, and so on.
But out of trust in his disciple, as well as affection for him, he had agreed.
Without giving it much thought, he had brought Chen Mo straight to the Body Sect's treasury.
In no time at all, he had gathered everything on the list.
He had assumed his disciple needed those things for cultivation.
Who would have thought this ungrateful disciple wanted them to build a cage?
And a lousy cage at that.
What a criminal waste of precious treasures!
At that moment, he was so angry his liver practically ached.
But when he heard that this lousy cage could withstand Tribulation Lightning, his reaction changed.
Disbelief filled Du Busi's face.
He even felt like laughing.
"Aren't you being a little too naive, brat? Do you know how powerful Tribulation Lightning is? Even I have to avoid its sharp edge, yet you think a lousy cage can withstand it? What a flight of fancy."
Seeing that his master did not believe him, Chen Mo did not argue.
He put away the Faraday Cage.
Then he headed for the door. “Hearing is unreliable; seeing is believing. Master, would you like to come see what this Faraday Cage can do?”
Du Busi did not refuse.
He wanted to see just how this lousy cage could withstand lightning.
Soon enough.
Master and disciple arrived at the back mountain.
There were more than a dozen thousand-year lightning-attribute Soul Beasts, including a Bullhorn Thunder Dragon, a Thunder Beast, a Thunder-Patterned Spider, and others.
At that moment, however, they were all confined inside an iron cage.
Demon Fist Douluo was responsible for guarding them.
Whenever a Soul Beast tried to break the iron cage and escape, he would intervene.
Demon Fist would teach the offender what an iron fist of love meant!
When he saw Chen Mo and Du Busi arrive, he greeted them.
"Sect Master, Young Sect Master," Demon Fist said respectfully.
"Mm." Du Busi nodded slightly.
Chen Mo greeted him as well. "It's been a while, Elder Demon Fist."
After exchanging greetings, he turned his attention to the cage.
He swept his gaze over the dozen or so Soul Beasts inside.
He could not help feeling disappointed. "Seriously? Why are they all thousand-year Soul Beasts? Master, be honest—did you slack off? Why isn't there a single ten-thousand-year Soul Beast?"
"Enough nonsense. If you're going to test it, hurry up. I have other matters to attend to," Du Busi urged.
"All right, thousand-year it is. I'll make do."
Chen Mo took out the Faraday Cage and set it in place.
Then he drove all the hooks into the ground.
After that, he personally sat down inside.
"Elder Demon Fist, sorry for the trouble, but please release those Soul Beasts and have them launch lightning-attribute attacks at me."
Demon Fist froze for a moment, then turned to Du Busi.
Du Busi strode forward and scolded him. "You ungrateful disciple, have you gone mad? If you want to test it, can't you just use some random object? Why test it yourself?"
"Don't worry, Master. Nothing will happen."
"Besides, if I made it myself, I should test it myself."
"That's the only way to understand its effectiveness."
There was not a trace of fear in Chen Mo's eyes. Instead, they brimmed with excitement.
Master and disciple went back and forth for quite some time.
In the end, Du Busi decided to do the test in Chen Mo's place.
At those words, Chen Mo's expression shifted.
He gave a knowing smile.
He finally took the bait. Chen Mo quickly climbed out of the cage and had his master, Du Busi, go inside.
"Master, since you're insisting so strongly, it would be wrong for your disciple to refuse."
"But remember, you absolutely must not activate your Martial Soul or use Soul Power to form a protective barrier. Otherwise, I won't be able to obtain accurate data on this cage."
At that, the corners of Du Busi's mouth twitched.
Have I been played?
This ungrateful disciple really is so very filial.
But he could hardly argue, since he truly had volunteered.
Once his master was ready, Chen Mo gave the order.
"Elder, release the Soul Beasts!" he told Demon Fist.
To avoid getting beaten afterward, Demon Fist sought confirmation.
He looked at Du Busi.
Du Busi nodded.
Since the Sect Master had volunteered, Demon Fist said no more.
Demon Fist opened the iron cage, released the thousand-year Soul Beasts, and had them aim at the cage.
They unleashed all sorts of lightning attacks.
Crackling lightning instantly lit up the back mountain.
Du Busi sat upright inside the Faraday Cage.
He let the Soul Beasts' attacks come at him.
Humiliating! Utterly humiliating.
As a dignified level 98 Super Douluo, when had I ever stood motionless and passively taken a beating?
But his attention soon shifted elsewhere.
He saw the lightning attacks launched by the Soul Beasts strike the cage.
Aside from shifting it backward a few times, they did no actual damage at all.
All the lightning was directed into the ground.
"How is this possible? It actually blocked them?"
Looking at the undamaged cage, Du Busi refused to believe it and reached out to touch it.
The lightning that had yet to fully dissipate instantly scorched his palm black.
He immediately turned to Demon Fist Douluo. "Demon Fist, give me a few more."
"Yes!"
Hearing this, Demon Fist Douluo snapped out of his astonishment.
The next moment.
The Soul Beasts unleashed powerful lightning attacks once again, but the result was the same: the current flowed into the ground, and the cage moved back a little.
"Again! Again!"
Du Busi's playful side took over, and he became hooked.
He only stopped when all dozen or so Soul Beasts were utterly exhausted.
The Faraday Cage remained completely intact.
It could even be said that its skin had not suffered so much as a scrape.
Chen Mo had recorded just about all the data he needed.
He intended to find a way to improve its existing electrical resistance further.
After all, the test just now had been mere child's play.
Tribulation Lightning was far more terrifying than this.
He also planned to add some weight to the cage.
