Dalaran's towering Mage Tower came into Rex's view. He lashed his riding whip hard across his horse's rump, urging it into a faster gallop as it carried him swiftly onward.
Upon entering Dalaran, Rex headed straight for Kael'thas's residence. Nothing there had changed. Although he had visited several times since his first visit, the interior's style and layout remained exactly as he remembered them. Strictly speaking, even the places where the maids stood never changed.
Rex shook his head slightly at the sight. In this residence, there was no spring or summer, no autumn or winter. Magic made the passage of time impossible to feel. An ordinary courtyard would grow old with the years, bearing the marks time left behind, but there were no such traces here.
Rex could have done the same with his own residence, but neither he nor anyone else would do so. That was true of any human.

Kael'thas's father, for instance, had met Thoradin, the first human emperor. It was the alliance between their two peoples that had defeated the Trolls, ending the Troll Wars that had entangled the High Elves for countless years.
Yet now even Anduin Lothar, the sole remaining heir to Emperor Thoradin's bloodline, was dead. That vast empire had splintered, giving rise to the present landscape of warring kingdoms.
Kael'thas's father, meanwhile, was still alive and full of vigor. Barring any accidents, he could easily live another thousand years.
"Are we leaving now?" Seated in his chair, Kael'thas
