The ultimate extreme of darkness was light! Light could not exist independently of darkness!

Two years earlier, in the royal palace in Gilneas's capital, Rex had openly declared those very words to King Genn, even earning praise from the Hero Rank expert Rachel.

Yet now, two years later, when the moment came to transform the utterly dark Blackwater Crystal into a Light Crystal, Rex hesitated.

He sat in an empty courtyard, having sent all the attendants far away. An exquisite box rested on the round wooden table in the courtyard, which brimmed with the vitality of spring. The opportunity to forge Ashbringer had arrived. The successful creation of that divine sword depended not only on the Black Crystal as a material, but also on timing. On the day Ashbringer was forged, its purpose had been to stop the undead Scourge and use the artifact's power to sweep away the undead.

That was merely Ashbringer's purpose. The true reason it had been successfully forged was rage. Mourning the death of his brother Muradin and consumed by ferocious hatred and fury toward the undead, Magni Bronzebeard, the dwarven king of Ironforge, had poured every ounce of his strength into hammering the crystal, blow after blow. Only then had Ashbringer come into being.

Compared with the time Ashbringer had appeared in Rex's memories, this was undoubtedly much later. In the original history, King Magni had successfully forged the crystal into a greatsword on the very day news of King Terenas's death reached Ironforge. Now, however, King Terenas had already been dead for some time.

There was no dispute over who possessed the greatest forging skill in Azeroth. It was unquestionably the dwarven king, Magni Bronzebeard, the only grandmaster alive.

The two indispensable elements in forging Ashbringer were the smith and the material.
