Swarms of locusts filled the air, dense and endless, their buzzing enough to chill the blood.

The cursed locusts swarmed overhead. A single one was tiny and unremarkable, hardly worth mentioning, but in vast numbers, they became terrifying. Anything in the world became a calamity once its numbers passed a certain point. Too many people brought disaster, and too many animals did the same. A locust plague could strip a thousand miles of land bare, devouring every last scrap of food.

A phoenix cried out. The fiery red Phoenix swept past Rex, beating its wings as crimson flames blazed around it. The cursed locust swarm burst into flames upon encountering it. In the blink of an eye, the densely packed sky had been burned clear, leaving only ashes drifting down on the wind. Scott and Darkbringer had worked together to let Scott evade a fatal blow, while here, Kael'thas had saved Rex at the critical moment.

Rex felt no relief at being saved by Kael'thas. His eyes remained grim. The battle had reached a crucial point. His side had already been at a disadvantage because Darkbringer was too powerful. They had devised a risky plan, but just as success was within reach, it had come to nothing. With Anub'arak joining the fight, Scott's side now had three Hero-level fighters. Carrying out their earlier plan was no longer realistic. Someone would have to hold Anub'arak back as well. Two Hero-level fighters could kill Scott without much difficulty; the problem was the time it would waste.

If Scott focused entirely on staying alive and deliberately stalled, there would be no settling the fight quickly.

Then the plan would not merely fail to create an advantage for them-it would allow Scott's side to pick them off one by one.
