What appeared before Rex was a palm-sized bottle. It looked unremarkable, an ordinary bottle in every respect save one: a thin, crimson cord burned around it in several loops, radiating an unmistakable magical aura.
The bottle is ordinary; the cord is a magic item. Rex reached that clear judgment the moment he saw it.
"What is this?" Rex asked.
"Open it and see." Instead of answering immediately, Kael'thas kept him guessing. The icy chill on his face faded, replaced by a faint smile. He handed the bottle to Rex and gestured for him to open it himself.
Rex took the bottle from Kael'thas and turned it over in his hands. Only then did he realize that the cord was not simply wrapped around the bottle. Its crimson loops held the stopper in place, and he would have to untie it to open the bottle. That peculiar arrangement was enough to pique anyone's curiosity, and Rex was no exception.
After examining it closely, Rex untied the thin crimson cord. It came loose easily, without any effort. That was one convenience of magic items: many could be operated with their owner's mental power, making them simple to use.

Quite a change, Rex marveled inwardly. He removed the stopper and looked inside. Just as he had expected, the bottle contained water.
A little thought was enough to reach that conclusion. Only so many things could be stored in a bottle, and water was among the most common. Besides, "water" covered a broad range
