"Brother, how sturdy is this temple of yours?" Rex asked the Iron Dwarf leader with an air of easy familiarity.

His eyes stayed fixed on the Gargoyles outside. Rex had not heard Dar'Khan's muttered words, but that did not mean he could not see what the Gargoyles were about to do.

"The god will shelter his people." A profound light shone in the Iron Dwarf's deep-blue eyes. Instead of answering Rex's question, he merely repeated those words with conviction.

Still pretending to be a fanatic, Rex grumbled inwardly about the Iron Dwarf leader. What was a fanatic? Someone who would rather die than commit blasphemy. This leader might have made it look as though he had been forced to act for the sake of his people, but he had still retreated into the temple.

Boom, boom, boom! Explosions rang out one after another as the Gargoyles dropped bundles of explosives from their claws, sending thunderous blasts through the temple roof.

Rex's expression darkened. Retreating into the temple had allowed them to take advantage of its defenses, but that was not without consequences. If the temple collapsed, the Iron Dwarves sheltering inside would be crushed to death by the falling structure.

At this point, Rex had no way to stop the Gargoyles. He could only pray that the temple was sturdy enough and that this undead army did not have too many explosives.

After retreating into the temple, Rex had stopped fighting and rested off to one side, heavy sword in hand. The Iron Dwarves were anything but friendly toward him, glaring at him with fury. Only their leader's reprimands kept them from attacking him, and the two sides stood distinctly apart.

Rex did not recognize the god enshrined in this temple. He gave it a glance and paid it little
