For thousands of years, the High Elves had revered the Sunwell as a font of magic and the source of their power. Its inexhaustible energy nourished them and continuously bestowed mysterious powers upon them.
The Sunwell encompassed more than just the water in the well. The surrounding woodland could also be considered part of it, and bore a rather unimaginative name: Sunwell Grove.
The grove lay in the heart of Quel'Thalas, providing energy to the High Elves who lived there. Just as the Sunwell had changed, the grove had undergone a striking transformation. Like the once-radiant waters of the well, its former splendor was gone.
As time passed, the corruption centered on the former resting place of Kel'Thuzad's remains grew worse by the day. The trees in the polluted grove were no longer full of life. Once-lush trunks stood bare, their remaining branches and leaves withered and mottled with black, as though countless worms were writhing across them. A sickening, foul odor constantly seeped from them.
When Rex arrived at Sunwell Grove, a disgusting stench assailed his nose. His brow furrowed briefly, then relaxed as he surveyed the scene without expression. Nearly half the Sunwell's waters had already been corrupted into foul sludge, and the rest were scarcely better. The magical fluctuations they emitted were no longer as powerful as before, and had grown impure.
All of this told Rex how dire the Sunwell's condition had become.
"Your Majesty!" The chorus of greetings rang out beside Rex and Kael'thas.
Rex calmly watched the handsome High Elves bow to Kael'thas.
In Rex's eyes, the High Elves were practically the world's favorites when it came to appearance alone. Almost every female High Elf was a beauty. Their men were handsome and their women lovely, something other races could not match.
