"Bolvar didn't come?" Varian listened quietly to the Royal Guard's report.

His face was expressionless, betraying neither joy nor anger, but his voice was as cold as ice, proving that he was nowhere near as calm inside as he appeared.

"The duke said he had no time and would come after daybreak," the Royal Guard repeated the exact message. Kneeling before Varian, he sounded rather apprehensive.

He had botched his assignment and failed to bring Bolvar back. Combined with Varian's anger, that failure put him under an inexplicable pressure.

"Leave." Varian spat the word through clenched teeth.

Watching the guard depart, Varian could no longer contain the anger suppressed in his eyes. It erupted at last, blazing fiercely.

"How dare he!"

"He actually refused my summons!"

At that moment, Varian felt that his authority had been challenged. He slammed a hand down on the table before him.
