"Varian won't sit still either!" It was the following afternoon. Rex had stayed up all night and only gone to bed after dawn. He had just gotten up when he received intelligence about Stormwind City. Rex kept a close watch on the Eastern Kingdoms, and reports from places such as Stormwind City traveled quickly. The telegraph network he had made a point of building was now proving its worth.
Still, the telegraph network had only been under construction for a short time, so the intelligence had suffered a considerable delay. These events had taken place during the night, but the report had only reached Rex when dusk was approaching the next day.
That made Rex realize he needed to speed up the laying of telegraph cables.
He specifically checked the map for that purpose. His cables had only just reached Southshore.
Southshore lay at the southernmost edge of the Hillsbrad Foothills. That was as far as they could go, because any farther would take them beyond the Kingdom of Gilneas's territory.
Continuing to lay cables would leave them vulnerable to accidents and all sorts of other problems.
They had discussed this a few days earlier and temporarily halted construction. Now, however, Rex no longer intended to leave things that way. The intelligence had arrived far too slowly.
Azeroth seemed like a fine world, but it suffered from a problem common to ancient societies in his previous life: communication.
People in one village knew nothing of what happened a hundred miles away.
That described Azeroth perfectly. Its lack of communication meant that connections between people were not close at all.
