With a creak, Rex pushed open the thin wooden door.
This was not his first visit to the Goblin Shop. The layout inside never changed, and he looked straight toward the counter.
It was empty. There seemed to be no one there.
Rex did not actually believe the place was deserted, however. He walked over to the broad chair in front of the counter and sat down without ceremony. "You have a customer! Hurry up and come out. Do you want to do business or not?"
Rex's shout proved effective. A head popped up from behind the counter.
It was completely bald, without a single hair, and vividly green-even greener than an orc.
The goblin's short body was remarkably nimble. He leaped up and landed securely on the counter, spreading his short, sturdy arms wide as he called warmly to Rex, "My dear friend! You're here."
Rex did not react to the goblin's gesture. He watched him approach for an embrace with an icy gaze.
His utter indifference brought the goblin's half-completed gesture to an abrupt halt.
Yet not a trace of embarrassment appeared on the goblin's face. His expression remained unchanged as he plopped down on the counter and gently swung his legs. His mouth spread into a grin, revealing snow-white teeth, and he said warmly, "Everything is ready. The bill is right here."
He took a sheet of parchment from inside his clothes and lightly tossed it to Rex.
Rex raised one hand slightly, curled his fingers, and caught it.
He caught the parchment securely and began examining it. A list covered the sheet in densely packed writing, detailing numerous items. However, most of the stock entries were marked empty. Only a scant few items
