The hazy night shrouded the land. In the ring-shaped valley, chaotic shouts filled the firelit area, while voices conversed in a quiet spot nearby.
Silvery moonlight spilled across the ground, and the plaintive chirping of crickets sounded everywhere. The fragrance of night filled the air, weaving a soft net.
Rex cried out in shock at Chromie, the gnome standing before him. "Are you kidding me? Thoradin was killed just like that?"
Although he already believed it deep down, Rex still said those words.
He was using the time it took to say them to give himself a moment to think.
To think about his mission this time.
"It's already happened. It's too late to say anything else now," Chromie said, still cold.
This gnome lady, a member of the Bronze Dragonflight in disguise, was practically a machine.
There was no trace of emotion on her face, whether joy, sorrow, or even distress over this alteration of a time node.
"What about my mission? Thoradin's already been killed, and the Arathi Tribe has been destroyed. Does that mean my mission has failed?" Rex asked.
"Yes," Chromie said.
Rex's expression was grim, utterly grim. As far as he was concerned, everything before him was going very badly indeed.
The mission had yet to truly begin. Rex had only just found traces of humans, and before he could rescue them all from the trolls and ask about the Arathi Tribe, Chromie had arrived to announce that his mission had failed.
