It was over. Rex had killed all the Infinite Dragonflight dragons.

Rex had originally intended to spare the last Infinite Dragonflight dragon rather than kill him immediately. He had planned to imprison him for the time being so he could obtain more gold ore from the Deadmines and add to his haul.

But that plan had failed.

The dragon had reacted far too strongly. Once he found every escape route blocked, he decided to flee this point in time altogether. Rex saw half his body turn ethereal, on the verge of disappearing, and was forced to act. He decisively finished the dragon off.

He had no intention of letting an enemy escape right before his eyes. The dragon's actions also showed Rex just how impractical it was to imprison a member of the Infinite Dragonflight.

These dragons were unlike other enemies. They could travel through time and space, and one careless mistake would let them use that ability to escape. Even binding them would be useless.

Only a place that could block temporal power would allow him to imprison an Infinite Dragonflight dragon completely. In the future, Rex could have sought out people and gathered the materials to build such a place. It would have been difficult, but not impossible. Here, a thousand years in the past, however, the Arathi Tribe had people and lacked practically everything else. Under those circumstances, Rex truly could not do it.

That discovery disappointed him. Rex had brought the Paladin along precisely because he wanted to capture the dragons alive. If he had simply wanted to kill them, there would have been no need to bring the Paladin. Rex could have done it alone, and with the Archmage's support, the dragons would have had no realistic chance of escaping.
