Rex walked slowly along the streets of Durnholde Keep.
This was not his first visit to Durnholde Keep. He had come here once shortly after arriving in this world. He remembered that back then, it had still been an orc internment camp under the Alliance-or, more precisely, under the Kingdom of Lordaeron.
Back then, Durnholde Keep had bustled with voices. Human soldiers were stationed here alongside the orcs, and there had been no shortage of people. Now that he had returned, not only had the keep fallen further into disrepair, but it was also largely deserted. Most areas had been abandoned, and many others had been remodeled. Rex could find few traces of the place he remembered.
Rex had no reason to doubt the Paladin's abilities. Taking a Durnholde Keep with barely any defenders had been a simple task.
The battle had been over before it began. To ensure the capture of Alterac City, most of Durnholde Keep's forces had already been taken away.
Rex understood the Syndicate's thinking perfectly well. They clearly intended to abandon Durnholde Keep. Compared with Alterac City, the keep had inherent shortcomings. Its imposing construction, with high, thick walls, should have been an advantage, but it was also a disadvantage.
Those advantages had helped the Syndicate regroup here after fleeing Alterac City. They had resisted the ogres' first attack rather than being wiped out outright. But the disadvantage was just as obvious: those imposing walls made it impossible for the Syndicate to expand Durnholde Keep, restricting their growth.
This time, the Syndicate had sent most of its forces to attack Alterac City, both to concentrate its strength and because, if it won, it would not have to relocate afterward. It could simply establish itself in Alterac City.
Running a hand over Durnholde Keep's wall, Rex
