Rex, who was on his way to Ironforge, knew nothing of the strange developments in Northrend. Had he known what was happening there, he certainly would not have been smiling as he arrived. If the massive storyline of The Burning Crusade was an appetizer, then the Lich King's storyline was the true main course.
No matter how events unfolded in the vast storyline of The Burning Crusade, they took place in Outland, not Azeroth, far from the places where the Alliance and Horde were concentrated. To be perfectly honest, the threat was negligible to ordinary people. Many knew only that a place called Outland existed. They had suffered nothing personally, so it caused little stir. The Lich King was different.
The outbreak of the Undead Scourge had destroyed the Kingdom of Lordaeron, the most glorious civilization of humanity. Countless families had been torn apart, and their ancestors desecrated. It directly affected millions of people. To say it had nothing to do with them was simply impossible.

After all, what made the Lich King terrifying was not his combat strength, but the speed at which he could create troops. He grew stronger with every battle, constantly turning corpses into his own soldiers, something neither humans nor their allied forces could achieve. His minions also possessed another tremendous advantage: they needed no logistical supplies.
These two advantages made the Lich King a latent threat to Azeroth. If he unleashed his forces, a catastrophe was certain to sweep across the world, every bit as terrifying as an invasion by the Burning Legion.
Rex knew nothing of any of this, however, so a faint smile still rested on his face as he
