Just as fighting broke out where Jaina was,
Lordaeron City was far from peaceful, too. Unrest erupted there at the very same moment the undead struck in the outskirts.
The unrest in Lordaeron City was the work of the Cult of the Damned. Its members had begun to act.
Unlike during the last operation to wipe out the Cult of the Damned, the cultists this time were generally much stronger.
Last time, the cultists had merely had strength in numbers. Their actual abilities had not been particularly impressive. This time, however, things were completely different: there were far fewer cultists, but each of them was powerful.
Together, those two factors spelled trouble for the Kingdom of Gilneas.
Their smaller numbers made them more mobile. Last time, their vast numbers had been an advantage, but they had also restricted the cultists' movements. After all, however many people the Cult of the Damned had, could they possibly outnumber the Kingdom of Gilneas?
Obviously not.
The Kingdom of Gilneas had more people. The cult could not compete in numbers, and its large size had limited its mobility, ultimately forcing it into a direct confrontation with the kingdom. That had sealed the cultists' fate: annihilation. This time, the Cult of the Damned had learned its lesson and sent very few people. That made them exceptionally mobile, and their formidable strength only added to the advantage. Expecting them to capture Lordaeron City outright was still utterly unrealistic.
But throwing Lordaeron City into chaos would be easy.
Destruction was always faster than construction.
All they had to do was start fires in a few places around Lordaeron City, and chaos would naturally follow.
No matter the circumstances, setting fires was always an easy way to sow confusion.
Most buildings in Azeroth were made of wood. That
