Rex strode across the brightly colored carpet, his face dark with fury, clutching a letter that had become a hot potato in his hands. As his grip tightened, the letter crumpled. A fat man hurried up to him, his eyes almost lost in his round, fleshy face. The instant Rex saw him, he kicked him without a second thought, sending him tumbling. With anger bottled up inside him, Rex had kicked the man hard enough to roll him over-a clear measure of his fury.
"Monroe, you damn fool! You'll accept anything, won't you? Tell me! What's the story behind this letter?" Rex demanded, his eyes gleaming coldly and his expression grim.
Rex's savage behavior terrified Monroe. He had never seen Rex so angry before. He stammered, "I received this letter yesterday when I was in Pyrewood Village. They said it was from Princess Jaina. I checked it, and it came with her token, so it couldn't be fake." Monroe delivered that last part with extreme caution. He was clever enough to realize that this letter had to be a fake.
"Jaina," Rex murmured, his expression not softening in the slightest. He looked at Monroe and spoke again. "Go back and suppress the news. Jaina never sent anyone to deliver a letter to you. Understand?"
"Yes, yes, yes!" Monroe dared not delay. He scrambled out, curious about the letter's contents but afraid to ask. He hurried back to the caravan, found the employee involved, seized him, and sent him to Rex's Manor.
Watching Monroe disappear, Rex felt some of the pressure inside him ease. That kick had vented a little of his anger. He really could not blame Monroe for this. Who would stop a letter from Jaina to him when it came with her token? Plenty of people knew that
