"Grandpa!"
Kujō Kyōichi had just returned home from school when he saw his grandfather slumped on the ground.
"Grandpa, what happened?"
Kujō Kai stood up and smiled at Kujō Kyōichi.
"Nothing. I just took a tumble."
"How was school today, Kyōichi?"
Kujō Kyōichi watched Kujō Kai hide his injured hand, and anger flashed in his eyes.
"Grandpa, did they come here again?"
Kujō Kai patted Kujō Kyōichi on the head.
"They're your parents."
"No, they're not!"
Kujō Kyōichi shouted and hurled his schoolbag to the floor.
"If they were my parents, they wouldn't come back and leave without even looking at me."
"If they were my parents, they wouldn't hit you every time they came back!"
"They're not my parents!"
Watching his grandson rage, Kujō Kai had no answer.
"Grandpa, what exactly do they want?"
Kujō Kai's eyes dimmed under his grandson's searching gaze.
He took Kujō Kyōichi into the courtyard, looked at the cherry tree, and said slowly, "Mirror One, this world is complicated. When people without the talent come into contact with things they should never have touched, tragedy follows."
"Back then, I failed to understand that, and I let your parents become Onmyoji."
"They don't have the talent to become top Onmyoji, but the stories I told them about our ancestors' glory made them want to become people like those ancestors." "They've always believed the Kujō House has a mysterious inheritance, something that could carry them straight to the top."

Disappointment filled Kujō Kai's eyes.
