Chen Miao first heard the term "Malevolent Fiend" from Chen Guokun.
While handling the incident involving Yue Na and Yue Xiaodao, Chen Guokun had said that Yue Na had the potential to become a Malevolent Fiend. Once she did, she would be beyond the capabilities of a Grade-D Investigator like him.
Later, Chen Miao learned more detailed information about Malevolent Fiends from Zhong Cai and various Memory Fragments.
Although Malevolent Fiends were only one rank above Vengeful Ghosts, the gap in their strength was nothing like the gap between Grade-D and Grade-C Investigators, or between pre-aperture opening and Aperture Opening.
The strength of Malevolent Fiends varied enormously.
Some were only slightly stronger than ordinary Ghosts, with the additional ability to leave their original locations.
But some Malevolent Fiends far surpassed ordinary Ghosts.
These possessed a distinctive feature that practitioners of yin cultivation called a ghost domain.
A ghost domain was a space a Malevolent Fiend enveloped with the baleful energy within its body.
Within that space, the Malevolent Fiend could shift positions whenever and wherever it pleased, and could affect the physical environment to a certain extent-such as the fog Chen Miao was seeing.
This fog was no illusion. It was something real, condensed through the Malevolent Fiend's abilities.
Just like Chen Miao's Mist Condensation state.
Chen Miao could not see through this fog with his Yin-Yang Eyes.
If he activated them, all he would see was the glow of yin energy.
If that were all, it would merely make finding the Malevolent Fiend more difficult.
But Malevolent Fiends had another characteristic: within their ghost domains, unless their true bodies were destroyed directly or the entire domain was shattered in an instant, any Malevolent Fiend killed there was only a duplicate.
In a sense, a Malevolent Fiend could be reborn
