Chen Miao straightened up and scanned the pool of mangled flesh. When he spotted the exposed Smiling Buddha Shrine, he grabbed it and pulled it free.
He shook off the filth clinging to it and climbed out of the pool.
Looking at the cracks in the shrine, Chen Miao applied a little pressure with both hands, and it split in two.

He tossed the shrine onto the floor and was about to take out his notebook for a look when a sudden glint from inside the shattered shrine caught his attention.
Turning, Chen Miao saw something resembling a shard of glass, reflecting a sliver of light under the lamps.
He was certain there had been no glass shards where he had just been standing.
"Did it fall out of the shrine?"
"Qi Ning never mentioned anything inside the shrines. Was he unable to tell me, or was it... only in this one?"
