"Hm? What time is it?"
When Chen Miao opened his eyes again, everyone around him had already left.
He lifted the blanket and took out his phone to check.
"Five thirty. Not too bad."
After stretching, Chen Miao folded the blanket and put it back, then picked up his bag and headed downstairs.
Soon, he spotted Zhao Gongzi chatting with a few university students.
After a short wait, Zhao Gongzi came over and asked, "Want to get dinner together?"
Chen Miao nodded.
"Yeah. I'm going to see my apprentice. She's been working in Lin'an City lately. Come along. If anything happens, you two can look out for each other."
Zhao Gongzi agreed.
After leaving a few instructions with the shop assistant, he followed Chen Miao out of the store.
Zhao Gongzi assumed that "looking out for each other" meant helping Chen Miao take care of his apprentice.
But once he actually met Chen Miao's apprentice and learned what she was doing now, that notion vanished completely.
Half an hour later, outside a restaurant, Chen Miao met Shi Manman, whom he hadn't seen in quite some time.
Zhao Gongzi froze for a moment when he saw Shi Manman.
He knew Chen Miao had an apprentice, but he hadn't known that apprentice was a woman.
His gaze drifted between Shi Manman and Chen Miao for a while, but he said nothing.
After exchanging greetings, the three entered a private dining room.
"How's work going?"
Chen Miao asked after they ordered.
"I've started going out on assignments with the others, so things have gotten busy. But..."
As Shi Manman explained, Chen Miao finally gained a proper understanding of forensic work.
He had always thought forensic examiners only got involved in cases of unnatural death.
But there was actually much more to it.
