Zhao Gongzi sat with Shen Xi in the living room, waiting for Chen Miao to arrive.
"Do you think San Shui has something important to tell us? Calling us over this late."
Zhao Gongzi seemed a little uneasy.
"Don't worry. It's not time for the Blood Gate mission to start yet."
Shen Xi held Zhao Gongzi's hand and smiled. "Trust San Shui. Him doing this actually makes me feel pretty reassured."
Zhao Gongzi nodded and said nothing more.
As the two chatted, a pair of feet suddenly dangled from the suspended ceiling in front of them.
Before either could react in shock, the rest of Chen Miao dropped through the ceiling.
"Uh, who taught you to make an entrance like that?"
Zhao Gongzi sounded rather speechless.
Chen Miao had little choice. The Wood-Merging Art required wood as a medium, and the suspended ceiling contained the most wood in their living room, followed by the cabinet beneath the television.
If he didn't come down through the ceiling, was he supposed to crawl out from under the television?
That would have been even more frightening.
"All right, you chicken. Stand aside."
After a brief flash of anger, Zhao Gongzi stepped aside.
Chen Miao took a stack of joss paper out of his portable space.
"Shen Xi, try burning this first."
Shen Xi took the stack of joss paper. Though she didn't understand why, she still found a lighter and set it alight.
Once the joss paper had burned completely, a faint layer of golden light appeared over Shen Xi's body.
Shen Xi looked astonished at the sight.
"San Shui, what is this?"
Chen Miao nodded in satisfaction.
"Protective power. It can block attacks from ghosts, and even let you hurt them directly."
