Looking at the backend stats, I get the feeling that everyone is waiting for a story arc to finish before catching up.
As a reader myself, I understand. After all, this isn't the sort of novel driven by intense emotions. It leans more toward everyday life and is suited to a leisurely read.
It's perfectly normal not to feel much urge to keep up during the transitions between plotlines.
So when I saw that the numbers might not be enough to qualify for Sanjiang, I decided to just go premium rather than keep waiting.
There will be a 10,000-character update on the first day of paid release. After that, the base schedule will be 6,000 characters a day, either combined into two chapters or split into three.
There will also be bonus updates on top of that.
The previously announced rule of one bonus chapter per 200 monthly votes still stands. So far, I owe two bonus chapters. There won't be any bonus updates on release day, but I'll gradually post the chapters owed for monthly votes afterward. At the end of the month, I'll tally up any new bonus chapters owed and gradually post those next month.
This approach to bonus updates is something I've learned from experience writing novels.
Because plotting this book takes quite a lot of time, I write slowly and don't have much of a chapter backlog.
Without a backlog, the plot can easily go off the rails.
I know everyone wants a more satisfying read, but I think you'd rather have a book that doesn't fall apart at the end.
So bonus updates will depend on monthly votes, tips, and how many chapters I have saved up.
