From the Memory Fragments of the two men from the Mountain God Shrine, Chen Miao learned about the Incense God Shrine.
The Incense God Shrine could also be called... the Incense Way!
One of the foremost schools of the Incense Way was the incense-burning inheritance Chen Miao possessed.
The various branches of the Incense Way took different paths to the same destination: communicating with Immortals and Gods and obtaining their power.
But some branches of the Incense Way were better than others.
The incense-burning inheritance had become one of the foremost schools of the Incense Way because the way an Incense-Burning Heir communicated with Immortals and Gods was the simplest and most direct.
Not only that, but the response from the Immortals and Gods far surpassed what other schools received.
Yet becoming an Incense-Burning Heir was also very difficult.
Even someone who obtained the incense-burning inheritance might not earn the favor of the Immortals and Gods.
Thus, Incense-Burning Heirs were few but exceptional.
The two men Chen Miao had killed belonged to the Immortal-Worshippers, a branch of the Incense Way that primarily worshipped certain Immortals to obtain the power of Immortals and Gods.
Unlike those with the incense-burning inheritance, the Immortal-Worshippers used the divine statues they worshipped to make contact with Immortals and Gods.
The reason the Immortal-Worshippers were considered inferior to Incense-Burning Heirs involved something called the Incense Realm!
Cultivators of the Incense Way had to go through the Incense Realm to communicate with Immortals and Gods.
Only after their thoughts reached the Incense Realm could they use its unique properties to connect with Immortals and Gods.
Incense-Burning Heirs could use their incense-burning inheritance directly to send their thoughts straight into the Incense Realm, connect with Immortals and Gods, and invoke divine power.
The Immortal-Worshippers were different.
