"We're here. That's the Heavenly Ruins Tomb."
Following Jiang Wei's gesture, Chen Miao saw nothing but a vast expanse of white mist.
The mist wasn't above the ground, but below it!
Only when they drew closer did Chen Miao make out the rim of a pit looming through the mist.
Remembering Kong Yue's earlier explanation that the Heavenly Ruins Tomb was a meteor crater, Chen Miao couldn't help wondering in shock just how big that meteor had been to leave a crater nearly two hundred meters across!
Chen Miao asked the question outright.
Kong Yue answered him.
"This crater appeared a very long time ago. It's at least a thousand years old. There's no way to establish what happened back then anymore."
"But I've heard one account. After the crater appeared, some people believed it was a divine miracle, so they moved their entire village into it and built a settlement there."
"What happened afterward?" Chen Miao asked in surprise.
"Afterward, everyone in that village died, one after another, in less than a year."
"Some said it was divine punishment, not a miracle. After that, the area around the crater became deserted. And so, a thousand years later, the Cangzhou Demon-Suppressing Bureau built the Eastern Mausoleum here."
Beside her, Jiang Wei nodded.
"That legend does exist, but divine punishment and the like probably had nothing to do with it."
"Judging by the Heavenly Ruins Tomb's current condition, the meteor changed the terrain here when it fell, turning this place into a natural yin-gathering site."
"Of course ordinary people wouldn't live long in a place like that!"
With that, Jiang Wei handed each of the three something resembling a peachwood talisman.
Judging by the material, though, it was probably pagoda tree wood, not peach wood.
