Chen Miao walked out of the inner room, looking rather resigned.
"Elder Uncle, can't I sit this one out?"
"What do you mean, sit it out? Come on!"
Seeing Elder Uncle glare at him, Chen Miao didn't dare argue any further.
Once he got into the car, Chen Miao began listening to Elder Uncle and his wife chat.
"Didn't I tell you the Old Mother Shrine on Jingshan was something special? You never took it seriously before. Now you know how powerful the Old Mother Goddess is, don't you?"
His aunt sorted through the various ritual offerings in the bags on the back seat as she spoke to Elder Uncle up front.
In the past, Elder Uncle would have argued with her a little.
This time, however, he had joined her camp outright.
"Who could've known the Old Mother Goddess would actually manifest?"
"Listen, San Shui. When we get up there, after you pray for safety, pray for a match too, understand?"
"Matchmaking is what the Old Mother Goddess does best. Once you find someone, go back and fulfill your vow, then pray for a son and a daughter while you're at it."

"Elder Uncle, Auntie, how do you know that was the Old Mother Goddess? Didn't that voice say he was called the Mortal Deity? What does the Mortal Deity have to do with the Old Mother Shrine?"
At that, his aunt immediately patted Chen Miao on the shoulder.
"What are you saying, child? Hurry up and say, 'Pah, pah, pah!'"
She pressed her palms together and bowed toward Jingshan.
"Old Mother Goddess, please don't take offense. The child doesn't know any better."
