Ch. 1741Rewards secured, a plane shattered
Chapter summary
Key plot points and events
- After Jiejiao’s disciples recklessly bring out their magic treasures, Lin Tian dismisses himself to seclusion and leaves Zhen Yuanzi to manage them. Holy Mother Wudang punishes everyone who drew a weapon, ordering them to spend a hundred years at Reflection Cliff.
- In his Creation Dao Field, Lin Tian opens three dao marks taken from Maitreya Buddha. The rewards include the God-Devil Oil Lamp, the Reincarnation Talisman, the divine ability Buddha Kingdom in the Palm, a God-Slaying Curse Mantra, Pan Gu Blood Essence, chaos spiritual energy, and many years of cultivation.
- Lin Tian studies the rewards. The oil lamp can command corpses if fueled with Chaos God-Devil essence blood, which he can provide. He considers using it to control the bodies of Jiejiao’s Buddhist captives as combat forces.
- He judges the Reincarnation Talisman unnecessary for Jiejiao because its members can use the xuanhuang tai sui to replace damaged bodies. He cultivates the God-Slaying Curse Mantra, inscribing it onto his arm so his blows can attack both bodies and primordial spirits, then begins studying Maitreya’s world laws.
- Meanwhile, Patriarch Bodhi infiltrates Golden Turtle Island and explores Jiejiao’s treasure vault. He discovers that the sect has gained powerful resources, including a remarkable “hundred herbs spiritual root.”
- Bodhi cannot find Lin Tian, but recognizes how dramatically Lin Tian has rebuilt Jiejiao. The sect’s strength now exceeds its former peak in several respects, supported by powerful allies and the Chaos Bell.
- Though Bodhi sees Jiejiao’s revival as a threat to the Buddhist Sect, he cannot attack the island directly. His mission is constrained by the Heavenly Dao Oath: he may leave no karma except that of killing Lin Tian.
Character developments and interactions
- Lin Tian remains pragmatic: he delegates discipline to Zhen Yuanzi, assesses each reward by its usefulness to Jiejiao, and strengthens himself through cultivation.
- Holy Mother Wudang takes firm control of the unruly disciples, imposing a severe punishment after their display of weapons.
- Luo Xuan and the other disciples feel ashamed and put their magic treasures away, revealing that their impulsiveness has at least prompted public embarrassment and discipline.
- Patriarch Bodhi is impressed by Lin Tian’s achievements and Jiejiao’s recovery. He is no longer tied to the Buddhist Sect, yet remains bound by his vow to kill Lin Tian.
- Zhen Yuanzi is entrusted with overseeing the disciples, while Bodhi’s assessment places him among Jiejiao’s leading figures.
Significant themes
- Rebuilding and renewal: Lin Tian has helped Jiejiao recover from destruction and acquire resources and strength beyond its former state.
- Power tempered by discipline: The disciples’ eagerness to show off contrasts with the need for restraint and responsible leadership.
- Pragmatism in the use of power: Lin Tian weighs each treasure for its practical value rather than treating every reward as equally useful.
- Fate, vows, and constrained action: Bodhi’s oath limits what he can do, even as he recognizes Jiejiao’s rise and considers Lin Tian a threat.
