Ch. 941Primordial Heavenly Venerable's Lament
Key plot points and events
- Jieyin and Zhunti recover from a strange, desire-filled experience and are startled to find Primordial Heavenly Venerable (Yuanshi) has returned after his captivity under the Lord of Fate.
- Yuanshi reflects on how far behind he has fallen: Jieyin and Zhunti rule their own realms, while he and Nüwa are the only Sages left in the Primordial World. Tongtian and Laozi then gain two major breakthroughs after the Immortal Realm stabilizes and grants them merit; Yuanshi can claim only a small share.
- The Lord of Fate defeats the Resentment Aggregate, but its leader, the Lord of Desire, warns that the Primordial World will eventually be destroyed and its inhabitants absorbed into him. He fades away, promising to return.
- The five Sages congratulate the Lord of Fate. He announces that he will soon try to reach the Heavenly Dao Realm and expects the Buddha and Immortal realms to support him, then disappears.
- The Sages suspect the Demon Emperor or Heavenly Dao may be missing, since neither has moved to stop the Lord of Fate’s seemingly unguarded breakthrough. They travel to the Demon Realm to investigate, but cannot enter without the Demon Emperor’s permission and receive no reply from Nüwa, Taiyi, or Dijun.
