Ch. 41Teaming Up to Hunt Demonic Beasts
Plot points and events
- Liu Changxu’s cultivation, physical strength, pill-refining, and talisman-making have all improved. His growing success at producing pills and talismans has earned him more than 300 low-grade spirit stones.
- His fifth brother, Liu Changshun, runs out of money and proposes forming a group to hunt demonic beasts. Changxu agrees, both to help his brother earn income and to gain practical experience and a break from crafting.
- Changxu insists they recruit more clansmen and inform the elders. Grand Elder Liu Qiusheng approves, but, concerned the young cultivators may act recklessly, arranges for their grandfather, Fourth Elder Liu Baichuan, to lead them.
- Liu Baichuan organizes a team that includes Changshun’s father, Liu Shijie; Liu Shichao; and Liu Changchun. Before setting out, the group gathers information about safe, worthwhile hunting grounds.
Character developments and interactions
- Changxu’s growing competence makes him a promising cultivator, while his growing stock of unsold talismans gives him confidence that he can protect himself on a hunt.
- Changshun is short of spirit stones and turns to hunting for income. His closeness with Changxu helps persuade his brother to join him.
- Qiusheng balances support for the younger generation’s ambition with concern for their safety. Rather than forbid the hunt, he delegates leadership to Baichuan.
- Baichuan takes a cautious, practical approach by consulting other elders and gathering local intelligence before leading the team.
Setting and themes
- The chapter establishes the Purple Forest Market’s strategic position between the Azure Cloud Range and the Azure Mist Plain. Its spirit vein and trade routes draw cultivators, while its proximity to demonic beasts makes it a hunting hub and a defensive outpost for the Azure Cloud Sect.
- Key themes include family support, cultivating through practical experience, and balancing ambition with caution. The elders recognize that progress requires risk, but insist that safety must come first.
