"What does a mere Brocade Kasaya amount to? It is nothing more than an external possession."
Tang Sanzang shook his head. He truly did not care about the Brocade Kasaya.
"On this journey west to worship the Buddha and seek the scriptures, you will be granted an audience with our Buddha, Tathagata."
"If your hair is unkempt, your face filthy, and your robes in disarray, how could you present yourself before our Buddha?"
Guanyin Bodhisattva tried to persuade him gently.
If Tang Sanzang had no interest whatsoever in the Brocade Kasaya, how could this trial proceed?
After all, this trial took place in Guanyin Bodhisattva's monastery. The shares of fortune and merit it yielded belonged to her.
"It is nothing but a foul sack of flesh."
Tang Sanzang shook his head and sighed.
"I believe our Buddha should understand me."
Tathagata might understand, but if Guanyin Bodhisattva could not obtain her share of fortune and merit, she would never let Tang Sanzang leave.
After she had spent ages trying to persuade him, Sun Wukong jumped out.
"Master, I have retrieved the Brocade Kasaya."
Sun Wukong had left as soon as Guanyin Bodhisattva arrived.
Guanyin Bodhisattva had assumed Sun Wukong wanted nothing to do with her because of the earlier incident with the Golden Hoop. She had never expected him to go fetch the Brocade Kasaya.
"In that case, may my disciple and I be on our way?"
Putting away the Brocade Kasaya, Tang Sanzang looked at Guanyin Bodhisattva with a broad smile.
Guanyin Bodhisattva had nothing left to say and simply departed.
Tang Sanzang and his disciple exchanged smiles and continued their journey.
When Guanyin Bodhisattva returned to the Guanyin Monastery, she discovered the corpse of a black bear lying not far from it.
"Wretched beast! A wretched beast indeed!"
