Ch. 594The Eastern Emperor Unsealed
Plot points and events
- Gungun approaches the imprisoned Eastern Emperor Taiyi and asks him to help kill Haotian, the Jade Emperor. Taiyi refuses to rush into a fight, knowing Haotian’s Heavenly Dao Divine Sword can unleash a strike powerful enough to destroy him.
- Gungun explains that the sword can be used only once. Taiyi should threaten Haotian by rallying the Demon Race against him, then destroy Haotian’s body while leaving his primordial spirit intact.
- Because the world is in a kalpa, Haotian’s surviving spirit would be placed on the Investiture of the Gods List, allowing Gungun—who is on friendly terms with its holder, Primordial Heavenly Venerable—to keep Haotian under control.
- Still wary of Gungun, Taiyi is offered a Yin-Yang Mother-Son Pill that will let Gungun control his life and death. Gungun leaves the choice to him.
- After reflecting on the past, Taiyi takes the pill. The locks and seals on his prison disappear, freeing him.
Character developments and interactions
- Taiyi remains proud and cautious, weighing both the danger of the mission and Gungun’s trustworthiness. Memories of his past and his connection to Ao Yue’s family ultimately persuade him to accept the risk.
- Gungun presents a calculated plan and tries to reassure Taiyi, but insists on a magical safeguard before releasing him. Its earnest, self-satisfied manner contrasts with Taiyi’s suspicion.
- Their interaction centers on a tense bargain: Gungun needs Taiyi’s power, while Taiyi needs reason to trust Gungun. Taiyi’s decision makes their partnership possible, but leaves Gungun with control over his fate.
Significant themes
- Power and risk: Taiyi’s past greatness cannot protect him from a weapon capable of killing him.
- Trust and control: Cooperation requires Taiyi to surrender some autonomy through the pill.
- Legacy and memory: Recollections of the Demon Court and old relationships shape Taiyi’s choice.
- Political strategy: Gungun seeks to defeat Haotian indirectly, using the kalpa and the Investiture of the Gods List rather than simply killing him.
