The Six Paths of Pain were already going all out. All six bodies stood ready for battle, with all but Naraka Path positioned at the front.
Every mechanism on Asura Path's body had been activated, leaving all manner of missiles ready to fire. The Hell Three-Headed Dog behind Animal Path, the Yatagarasu flying overhead, and the Invisible Chameleon, whose outline was only faintly visible under the falling rain, all showed just how cautious they were.
Standing beside Deva Path Pain was Konan, the beauty of the Akatsuki. Her expression was grim as she watched the surrounded Shisui Uchiha and his companion.
The Akatsuki had been hiding comfortably in Amegakure. Although they had secretly killed the village's former leader, the demigod Hanzo of the Salamander, they had never announced it publicly. When dealing with people from other villages, they still used Hanzo of the Salamander's name.
Aside from the members of the Akatsuki, almost no one knew that Amegakure had quietly changed leaders, allowing their organization to remain safely hidden within the village.
Yet not long ago, two uninvited guests had arrived in Amegakure. Even with Pain's sensory ninjutsu-the Rain Tiger at Will Technique-constantly covering the entire village, they had managed to sneak around and thoroughly investigate its strengths and weaknesses.
They had even reached the Akatsuki's headquarters, the building where Konan and Nagato lived, before Nagato's keen senses finally detected them. Only then had he immediately deployed the Six Paths of Pain, and it had taken an enormous price to corner them here.
If the Hell Three-Headed Dog had not worn them down and the Yatagarasu had not used its aerial advantage to cut off their escape routes, the two would have fled long ago.
