Shin Uchiha frowned, then understood why.
As Konoha's ally and the weakest of the five villages, Sunagakure had not taken a share of the spoils when Kumogakure and Iwagakure joined forces to destroy the Land of Whirlpools.
As a result, Sunagakure's seals for containing tailed beasts were terribly inadequate. Neither Monk Fenfu nor Gaara could sleep, since falling asleep risked letting the One-Tail emerge. That was also why Gaara used the Feigning Sleep Technique to put himself into a deep sleep whenever he wanted to release the One-Tail against an enemy.
Right now, Gaara was in the village. To keep the One-Tail from running wild, his room was brightly lit. At least that helped stave off some of his drowsiness.
But no human could go without sleep forever, and that was why Gaara was on the verge of breaking down.
Shin Uchiha sensed the chakra inside the room from the doorway, then flashed inside and appeared before Gaara.
Immediately afterward, Shin Uchiha formed several hand seals and used a Sealing Barrier to envelop the entire room.
Only after Shin Uchiha finished the seals did Gaara, still on the brink of collapse, come to his senses. With a trace of pain on his face, he demanded viciously:
"Who are you? Another fool here to die?"
Ever since Gaara killed his uncle, his personality had changed completely. He no longer cared about ordinary people's lives and had long since grown accustomed to the assassins the Fourth Kazekage sent after him. Shin Uchiha's sudden appearance had led Gaara to the same assumption.
Only once the Sealing Barrier was complete did Shin Uchiha take a closer look at Gaara.
Gaara looked just as he had when he first appeared in Konoha: short red hair, the character for "love" carved into his forehead, brown Sunagakure
