At the sound of Shin Uchiha's voice, they all stiffened, thinking he had changed his mind and intended to keep them all there.

Despite their overwhelming fear, they eventually turned around stiffly. They knew full well that if the man before them wanted to kill them, they would have no power to resist.

Shin Uchiha merely smiled at their rigid expressions before saying to Gaara:

"Gaara, I do admire you somewhat. If you ever decide to join me, I'll welcome you."

Shin Uchiha also felt some pity for Gaara.

Gaara had been dealt an utterly disastrous hand from birth. Even Naruto, whose childhood had been miserable enough, had not suffered as much as he had.

Although his father was the Fourth Kazekage, he had never enjoyed any of the privileges that should have come with being the Kazekage's son. Not only had his mother died when he was born, but even his uncle, who had treated him better than anyone else, had died before his eyes after being forced into it by the Fourth Kazekage.

He had also had no playmates or friends in Sunagakure, where everyone treated him as a freak.

On top of that, Sunagakure's sealing techniques were so poor that Gaara never dared to sleep. Otherwise, the One-Tail could escape from his body and wreak havoc.

Simply put, Gaara was a pitiful boy whom his own father had sacrificed from childhood.

Hearing Shin Uchiha's words, Gaara was startled. He immediately locked eyes with him, trying to figure out what he wanted. Was he after the monster inside him, or did he value something else?

Yet all Gaara saw in the man's eyes was a warm smile, leaving him frozen in a daze.

As far as Gaara could remember, no one except his uncle had ever shown
