The soldiers fell silent for a moment, then someone shouted along with him, "For King Stannis!"
More voices joined in. "For House Baratheon!"
Watching from a ship far away, Davos felt his eyes redden. Though he was Stannis's most trusted man and the nominal commander of the fleet, his low birth, combined with the fact that his command was not needed now, meant his ship could only take a position well away from Stannis.
But that was also why Stannis had chosen him to lead the breakout. Stannis knew the Valyrian navy would pursue his flagship relentlessly.
Yet he had overlooked one thing, something he had never even considered: against an army with dragons, all his previous experience was useless.
Viserys gave no one time to react. The moment King Ghidorah began her dive, he gently stroked her neck, wanting her to give them a spectacular opening performance.
Soon, all three of King Ghidorah's heads unleashed their breath at once. The next instant, a golden ray burst forth and shot straight toward Stannis's flagship.
Stannis saw the golden light coming toward him. He had no time to dodge, nor did he want to. He simply raised his longsword and roared one final command at the sky. "Loose!"
The Golden Ray struck the Fury, but there was no explosion, no flame, only a terrifying annihilation. Everything the ray struck vanished instantly without a trace.
The hull broke in two down the middle and sank rapidly, while the three warships behind it were caught in the attack as well. But because those three ships were narrower than the Golden Ray, they vanished outright.
