Early the next morning, Viserys appeared in the sky outside the city on King Ghidorah, right on time. Looking at the gates, which were still tightly shut, he sighed. There were always people who refused to face reality until it was too late.
This time, Viserys said nothing more. He sent King Ghidorah into a dive. The right head spewed searing dragonfire, the left unleashed Frost Breath, and the middle fired that terrifying Golden Ray.
The tower on the northern city wall was engulfed in dragonfire. The people inside became screaming balls of flame and fled in every direction. Some lost their bearings in their panic and plunged straight off the wall.
The dozen or so Scorpions on the wall were frozen solid by Frost Breath, along with the soldiers operating them, forming a eerily lifelike tableau.
As for the Golden Ray, it punched straight through the castle's main tower. Before Earl Rykker could flee, he vanished into the golden light along with the tower.
At the terrifying sight of one dragon launching three attacks, Duskendale's last will to resist collapsed entirely. Chaos engulfed the walls. Some soldiers ran down from the battlements, while others threw away their weapons, dropped to their knees, and shouted their surrender. Some stood rooted to the spot, at a loss, while others curled into balls and prayed ceaselessly to the Seven.
After receiving Viserys's permission, Rhaenys sent Meleys diving down. The crimson dragon stood out vividly in the sunlight.
As she approached the wall, Meleys opened her jaws and unleashed a torrent of searing dragonfire. The flames swept across a stretch of battlements, turning dozens more soldiers into screaming balls of fire before reducing them to heaps of charred remains.
