Seeing the two White Knights surrender, Joffrey suddenly found his courage. Forcing himself to look composed, he shouted at them, "I am your king, you fools! My grandfather, Lord Tywin, will have you both hanged!"
Unfortunately for him, the two men simply knelt there with their heads lowered, paying no attention to his abuse.
The Golden Company soldiers exchanged glances, then burst into laughter. Their faces filled with scorn as they watched Joffrey, who remained huddled in a corner even as he shouted at them, hiding behind two children who looked younger still.
"So this is the Little King?" one soldier could not help asking.
A man who appeared to be their captain stepped forward and crouched down, studying Joffrey with an appraising gaze. A hint of mockery colored his voice as he said, "King? There is no Lannister or Baratheon king in King's Landing anymore. Come with us. His Majesty Viserys Targaryen, Dragonlord of the Valyrian Freehold, wishes to see you."
With that, he seized Joffrey by the collar and hauled him up. Joffrey struggled wildly, shouting, "Let go of me! I am the king! I'll kill you all!" But no one paid him any attention.
Joffrey tried to say more, but the Golden Company squad leader had clearly lost his patience. He slapped Joffrey across the face, leaving him stunned, then grabbed his arm to drag him straight outside.
Tommen and Myrcella were terrified by the sight. They burst into tears and clung tightly to Joffrey's clothes. The other soldiers used no violence against the two children, but they unceremoniously took them out of the cellar along with the Lannister women.
Thus, the scions of the former royal house and a ducal family were hauled out of their final refuge in disgrace.
