Sansa lowered her eyes, her fingers unconsciously rubbing the hem of her skirt, then said softly, "I understand."
"All right," Viserys said. "I still have some matters to attend to. Go to the garden for now. We can talk again when we have the chance."
"Yes, Your Grace." Sansa and Jeyne curtsied together.
Viserys did not linger and walked past them. As he brushed by, Sansa caught his faint, distinctive scent, along with the barely perceptible trace of that other person's fragrance. The discovery made her heart beat a little faster.
Sansa stood where she was, watching Viserys leave until he entered the room. Jeyne peeked out from behind her, looking in his direction, and whispered, "His Grace Viserys seems much kinder than he looks."
"Yes," Sansa answered softly, though she could not help thinking that even a kindly dragon was still a dragon.
"Sansa?" Jeyne called softly, rousing her.
Sansa came back to herself and quickly said, "Let's hurry to the garden."
She took Jeyne's hand and led her toward the garden, but her mind was still in turmoil.
The sounds from last night, their chance encounter just now, and his words about seeing her family soon all tangled together, leaving her unsure what to do. She did not know what she was hoping for, or what she was afraid of.
Now Jeyne, who had been so shy before, took her hand instead and whispered, "Sansa, what did His Grace Viserys mean by 'one of my future wives'? Is he going to marry lots of women?"
