"The Horn of Winter?" Rhaenys had heard another unfamiliar term and could not help asking about it.
Viserys had not mentioned the Horn of Winter at all earlier. Her brows drew together slightly, not because she doubted him, but because she was curious and wanted to understand.
She had already spent half a month in the North and had heard far too many ancient, unsettling terms from Viserys and the others. Each seemed tied to a legend Westeros had all but forgotten.
"Yes, that's right." He nodded, facing her, his purple eyes looking directly into hers. "According to legend, it can bring down the Wall when blown. Some of the older songs say it was carved from the tusk of a mammoth."
"Of course, those are mythical embellishments, but the essence is true. The Horn of Winter is a magical artifact powerful enough to destroy the magical barrier inscribed upon the Wall."
Viserys spoke calmly, but that only made his words feel all the weightier to Rhaenys.
"And if my guess is right, the Night's King has already sent Others to search for it beyond the Wall. They know that frozen wasteland better than we do, and they're more eager to obtain it. Once it falls into his hands, we can consider the Wall's defenses lost."
"So rather than leave the Horn of Winter beyond the Wall, buried beneath some frozen rock, waiting for those cold corpses to discover it, I would rather find it first and keep it safely in my own hands. Even if we never use it, we cannot let it become a blade turned against us."
He paused, seemingly weighing his next words, then continued more slowly, his tone thoughtful. "Still, there's no need to rush over the next month or two. The Horn of Winter
