As Viserys's cold words fell, the remaining Wise Masters in the hall abandoned all thoughts of taking their chances. Their arrogance swiftly melted before true power, leaving only fear and despair.
Kraznys was finally dragged away by the Unsullied who had taken the city. He would face a public trial alongside the other captured Wise Masters.
This would not be an aristocratic trial of the kind held in Westeros. Instead, they would be judged by a provisional assembly formed jointly by all of Yunkai's slaves and the lower-class freemen who had surrendered.
On the day of the trial, mountains of slave sale contracts were presented, along with countless testimonies from slaves and freemen accusing them of their crimes. The outcome was never in doubt. Kraznys and his core supporters were sentenced to public execution. All their property was confiscated, with a portion allocated to rebuilding the city.
Family members whose crimes were relatively minor, or who could prove they had neither traded nor abused slaves, were sentenced to forced labor, fines, or exile.
Viserys remained clearheaded. He knew indiscriminate slaughter would only provoke a desperate fight to the death from the aristocrats of the other city-states. Leaving some room for leniency, however, would give them a sliver of hope. He needed people and supplies, not merely territory.
Viserys continued the approach he had used in Astapor, establishing a provisional administrative framework. He promoted local people from Yunkai, selecting representatives from among the slaves and freemen who had distinguished themselves.
These were all temporary measures.
Upon learning that the Targaryen Three-Headed Fire Dragon banner had risen over Yunkai's walls, the reinforcements from Meereen retreated in panic and carried the news home.
This suited Viserys perfectly.
After all, he did not want to go to war with Meereen yet. Yunkai had only
