Arrival at Casterly Rock

Toward evening, a dark red glow spread across the distant horizon, and a vast castle appeared below Viserys and the dragons.

The entire castle looked as though it had been carved straight out of the mountain. Gray-red stone walls extended from the cliffs, while tier upon tier of towers and ramparts nestled within the rock, blending seamlessly into the mountainside like a city that had grown from within it.

Casterly Rock.

Viserys had King Ghidorah descend. The dragon folded her wings and glided slowly downward, circling once in the sky above Casterly Rock.

The other three dragons followed in turn. Rather than continuing to fly off on their own, they formed a line behind King Ghidorah and circled above Casterly Rock.

Their enormous wings sliced through the dusk again and again, each beat stirring a deep, heavy rush of wind. Before they had completed two circuits, the three dragons raised their necks one after another and unleashed thunderous roars from deep within their chests.

Those roars cut through the sea breeze and struck the gray-red cliffs and tiered towers below, then swept past the walls and into the city, cowing all of Casterly Rock into silence amid the bustle of evening.

The people of the Westerlands in the city first heard a rumble overhead unlike either the sea breeze or thunder. Then they emerged from doorways, leaned out of windows, and peered between battlements, looking toward the source of the sound.

Once they clearly made out the four dragons in the sky, the streets and walls throughout Casterly Rock quickly filled with people eager to learn how real dragons differed from those in songs and legends.

Some had seen dragons elsewhere before. They stopped where they stood and pointed skyward, telling those around them about the dragon silhouettes they had
