Send Raven messages to those two houses as well, telling them to increase their mining output for the time being. They can send fewer men to the Wall and put them to work in the mines instead."
"Understood." Alliser rose, put away the parchment, and bowed, then left the room at Viserys's gesture.
The door closed softly behind Alliser with the faintest sound, and silence settled over the study once more, broken only by the long, low murmur of the sea breeze blowing through the window.
Viserys did not leave at once. He stood by the window of Casterly Rock's study a while longer as the cool, salt-laden sea breeze kept blowing in, bending the candle flames on the desk to one side. Their wavering light made his shadow on the wall stretch and shrink.
Viserys gathered the scattered documents and rolled up the map of the Westerlands again before carrying them out of the study. He intended to examine them properly once he brought them back to King's Landing.
He wanted to see whether he could use his abilities to uncover undiscovered mineral veins in the old mountain records and map markings of the Westerlands, giving his future rule a stronger financial foundation.
Viserys knew it might not be easy. His mental power could not yet reach all the way from King's Landing to the Westerlands, unless he stayed at Casterly Rock for a time. But he was in no hurry to draw conclusions. He simply held the volumes securely and headed toward the rooms Alliser had prepared for them.
