This was more than the confirmation of a title. It meant that no one could challenge Winterfell's standing in the North, and House Stark's commands would still carry across its snowy plains and castles.
Jon had heard that his two younger sisters had chosen to stay in King's Landing, so they must genuinely have grown fond of the new king, Viserys.
In truth, though, he still had not seen what Viserys looked like with his own eyes, nor had he ever seen his dragons.
Everything he knew of the new king came from fragments of other people's accounts, as though he were looking at a figure through a veil of wind and snow, never able to make him out clearly.
