"Rhaenys, let go of me first. I'll go in and bring Dany out." Viserys gently eased Rhaenys out of his arms and looked toward the room, which was still burning.
"Yes, brother. Please be careful." Worry showed on Rhaenys's face.
Black flames danced along the doorframe, giving off an uncanny heat. The guards had smothered some of the fire with sand and dirt, but the areas coated in the black substance continued to burn.
"Your Majesty." The captain of the guard and several guards instinctively moved to stop Viserys. They had all witnessed the horror of those black flames and feared something might happen to him.
Viserys ignored them, merely raising a hand to signal them to step back.
He drew on the nearby magic, forming an invisible barrier to keep the flames at bay. Although his bloodline made him one of the Unburnt, immune to fire, his clothes had no such protection-especially against these strange flames that clung so tenaciously.
