And so Daemon, the father of these bronze-and-fire twins, a sister and brother, shut himself off from everything around him, dragged Corlys into a midlife fresh start, and went off with him to play pirate king.
Their mother Rhea, meanwhile, looked at the two children who resembled Daemon and bore all the hallmarks of House Targaryen. The more she looked, the more they reminded her of the bastard who had walked away. Seeing them brought back Daemon's face and made her sick, so she remained lukewarm toward them. Her hands-off approach was practically no different from neglect.
When word reached Viserys, he had little choice but to order the twins brought to the Red Keep and placed in Alicent's care.
After all, if she was looking after one, she might as well look after three. Daeron was only a little over a year older than them, not quite two.
And so Daemon and Rhea's twins became Aegon, Helaena, Aemond, and Daeron's "siblings at the breast," especially Daeron's-the three little ones lay side by side in the nursery. If one ignored Daeron's noticeably larger size, one might have mistaken them for triplets.
