Aegon leaned against Rhaenyra's shoulder, watching Alicent smile as she fed Helaena a piece of lemon cake nearby. His fingers unconsciously rubbed the little dragon pendant hanging around his neck.

Daemon had given him this pendant three days earlier, too.

That day in the Godswood, even after making peace with Alicent, her former closest friend, Rhaenyra had still been feeling rather low.

Holding Aegon, she had wandered aimlessly through the trees for a long time before finally heading toward Daemon. After his "pleasant chat" with Viserys, Daemon had seen others surround his elder brother to flatter him and promptly chosen to retreat alone to a small viewing tower in the Godswood.

Daemon had been standing on the tower's terrace, toying with a cup of wine as he gazed at the distant Blackwater Rush. When he saw the siblings approaching, he raised an eyebrow, turned, and went down.

"Daemon," Rhaenyra called softly. Having come to pour out her grievances and complain, she could not help sounding a little downcast.

Daemon took two pieces of jewelry in the style of Old Valyria from a carved wooden box he carried and tossed them to the siblings.

One was a silver necklace for Rhaenyra, its pendant shaped like a dragon coiled around the moon;

the other was the pendant Aegon now wore around his neck. It seemed to have been carved from obsidian or some similar material and gleamed coldly.

"Took them from a nobleman from Myr back in the Stepstones," Daemon said casually. "Supposedly, they came from the Valyrian Peninsula. Only jewelry like this is worthy of our Targaryen blood."

Won over by the gift, Rhaenyra had been so delighted that she momentarily forgot why she had sought Daemon out. She hurriedly had Aegon help put the necklace on her. The cold silver
